Mondro for Mac (beta)

A private AI for your household
that runs on your Mac.

Mondro answers your questions, reads your documents and photos, keeps a memory of what matters to your family, and has a small staff who each do one job. Your chats are answered on your Mac, and Mondro keeps no cloud copy of them.

Needs a Mac with an Apple chip (M1 or newer), macOS 13 or later, and 16 GB of memory or more.

The House page in Mondro. Four numbered steps run across the top, from Draw it to Place your staff. Below them a single-storey house called My home sits in the Dollhouse view with every room named, and a list of its rooms, walls, outdoors and landscaping stands to the right.

Three plain facts

  1. No account

There is no account, no sign‑in and no subscription.

  2. Answered on your Mac

Your chats are answered on your Mac, and we can’t see them.

  3. Plain files

Everything Mondro stores for you is a file you can open, copy or delete.

Ask anything.

Drop in a PDF or a photo and ask about it.

A Mondro chat. Someone asks when their mortgage term ends. Mondro answers with the date, names the PDF it read, and lists its steps: asked Property Records, read two passages from one file, wrote the answer.
A question answered from one PDF, with the steps it took

Things to try

  • “Summarize this lease and list the dates I need to remember.”

  • “What did we spend on groceries in August?”

  • “Plan five dinners from my recipes.”

  • “What does my liability endorsement cover?”

  • “What plant is this and how do I care for it?”

With a model that can see pictures.

  • “Which of these charges look unusual?”

Household staff

A small staff who each do one job.

Each has one job and reads the folders you choose.

  • Home Chef, a mannequin in a chef's hat and apron.

    Home Chef

Plans dinners from your own recipes and pantry list, and uses up what expires first.

    “What are we low on?”

  • Home Accountant, a mannequin in a blue button-down shirt.

    Home Accountant

Reads your bank and card statements and tells you what you spent and when each subscription renews.

“Find every subscription and its renewal date.”

  • Property Records, a mannequin in a green overshirt.

    Property Records

Keeps your insurance policy, lease and appliance manuals in one place, and answers from them.

“What was my mortgage balance on Dec 31, 2023?”

  • Family Educator, a mannequin in a purple sweater.

    Family Educator

Quizzes and tutoring from the textbooks and class notes you keep in ~/Mondro/Textbooks.

    “Quiz me on chapter 4.”

  • Garden & Lawn, a mannequin in a bucket hat and work apron.

    Garden & Lawn

Works out what is due from the plant notes, frost dates and regular jobs you keep in ~/Mondro/Garden.

“What needs doing in the garden this week?”

  • The Builder, a mannequin in an orange work shirt and hard hat.

    Create your own

Describe a job in your own words and the Builder drafts a new staff member for you.

In Household > Staff press Add Staff, read the draft, then press Add This Staff Member.

Your home, drawn.

Draw your home on the house map, or describe it in your own words and Mondro draws it.

The same house in the Whole view, seen from outside: a red roof with a chimney, a garage, a path across the front lawn to the door, a mailbox and trees.
Whole: seen from outside
The house map in the Dollhouse view: a single-storey house with the roof off and every room named, from the garage with a car and the vegetable garden to the kitchen, dining room, living room, two bedrooms, bathroom, entry, front lawn and driveway.
Dollhouse: roof off, every room named

Runs on a schedule. Remembers what matters.

The top of the Routines page in the Workshop: Routines, things Mondro does on a schedule.

Routines

Set it up once in Workshop > Routines, and get it every week: a meal plan on Monday, or a summary of the receipts that came in.

A routine runs every hour, day or week while Mondro is running and the AI is on, even with the window closed. Results land in Workshop > Artifacts.

A line on the Memory page waiting for a yes: Bin day moved to Wednesday, with a box to tick to replace the old bin day.

Memory

Start a message with “Remember that”, and the fact waits in Household > Memory until you press Remember It. Or press Remember under an answer, choose the part worth keeping and press Save.

Nothing is kept until you say yes, and every memory is a plain file you can read and edit.

“What do you remember about our house?”

Your privacy

  1. The AI runs on your Mac. There is no account, no sign‑in and no subscription.

  2. Your chats are answered on your Mac, unless you connect another computer's AI, and we can't see them.

  3. Mondro goes online for a few things: to download a model you ask for or search for one, to check for a newer Mondro, to send the daily report if you choose Send, and to use a tool you turn on or another computer's AI you connect (each reaches its own service).

  4. Everything Mondro stores for you is a file you can open, copy or delete, except tool tokens, which go in the macOS Keychain.

  5. The daily report is your choice. Here's how it works.

The Models page in the Workshop. It says models are ordinary files in one folder you can open, copy or delete, and nothing downloads until you click Download. Below, the Auto choice, the On this Mac row with an Open Folder button, and the first model card.
Models are ordinary files in one folder

The daily report is your choice

The first time you open Mondro, it asks whether you’d like to send us a small daily report, to help us build the best Mondro we can. You have three answers, and none is picked for you.

  • Send a Daily Report

One small report a day comes to us.

  • Keep Reports on This Mac

Reports are written on your Mac and stay there.

  • No Thanks

    No report at all.

Nothing is written or sent until you answer, and you can change your answer any time.

A report holds
counts, version numbers and a few plain facts about your Mac and how the app ran.
It never holds
your messages, files, memory, name or house map.

You can read every report in the app, on the Network page in the Workshop.

Download

The beta is free, and there is no account to make.

What you need

  • A Mac with an Apple chip (M1 or newer)
  • macOS 13 or later
  • 16 GB of memory or more
  • About 4 GB free: the first AI model is about 2.5 GB
  • You live in the United States or Canada, and you’re an adult where you live

Download Mondro for Mac

Version
0.1.8
Size
about 18 MB
Requires
macOS 13 or later and 16 GB of memory or more, on a Mac with an Apple chip

To check that your download is exactly the file we built, open Terminal, paste the line below and press Return. It should end with OK. The long string is a fingerprint of the file.

echo "86d1cae167c215c8818f1b0e0149fcc901596b361f88db65572fb163b7b5f4d8 $HOME/Downloads/Mondro_0.1.8_aarch64.dmg" | shasum -a 256 -c

Install in three steps

  1. Open the file you downloaded, then drag Mondro into your Applications folder.
  2. Open Mondro from Applications.
  3. macOS asks if you're sure you want to open an app from the internet. Click Open. It doesn't ask again.

It’s a beta

Mondro is early and unfinished, and we would rather say so than have you find out. It can break, and it can be confidently wrong, so check anything that matters and keep your own copies of your files. If a friend wants Mondro, share this page with them, not the file. And if something is confusing, that’s a bug. Tell us with Report a bug in the menu at the bottom left of Mondro, or write to support@mondrosystems.com. We read every message.
