Mondro for Mac (beta)

How it works

Your chats are answered on your Mac, and we can't see them.

Your privacy

  1. The AI runs on your Mac. There is no account, no sign‑in and no subscription.

  2. Your chats are answered on your Mac, unless you connect another computer's AI, and we can't see them.

  3. Mondro goes online for a few things: to download a model you ask for or search for one, to check for a newer Mondro, to send the daily report if you choose Send, and to use a tool you turn on or another computer's AI you connect (each reaches its own service).

  4. Everything Mondro stores for you is a file you can open, copy or delete, except tool tokens, which go in the macOS Keychain.

  5. The daily report is your choice. Here's how it works.

When Mondro goes online

Apart from the beta report, the app connects to the internet only when:

  1. you ask it to download a model, which comes straight from the company that hosts it;

  2. you press Search in the model search box, which searches the model host;

  3. it checks for a newer version of Mondro: one minute after it opens, then every 6 hours (in the beta, every hour, and when its window comes to the front if the last check is an hour old). It asks our update server for one small file, and that server sees your Mac's internet address, as any website does. Mondro sends nothing about your chats or your household with it. When there is a newer version, the app downloads it, and installs it only when you say so. Workshop > Settings > Updates shows the address and turns off the automatic check. Check for Updates still checks when you choose it;

  4. you turn on a tool. A tool reaches its own service, and Mondro cannot see where a tool that runs as a program connects. The Tools page shows the program or address each one uses;

  5. you connect another computer's AI. Your chats, and anything you ask the AI to do, such as filing or tidying memory, go to that computer. So do the routines you schedule, even when they run while you are away.

Every request the app itself makes to another computer or service, including each one to another computer's AI, is listed on the Network page in the Workshop while the app is open, with its address.

Everything Mondro stores for you is a file you can open, copy or delete.

Your notes, files, household map and memory are plain files in the Mondro folder on your Mac. We cannot open them. Everything the app stores for you is a file you can open, copy or delete in two folders: the Mondro folder in your home folder, and the Mondro folder in Library > Application Support. The exceptions are tokens for tool servers, which are in the macOS Keychain, and three small folders named com.mondrosystems.mondro, in Library > Application Support, Library > Caches and Library > WebKit. They hold the window's size and position, the look, the zoom, the household member last picked and a web cache.

The Models page in the Workshop. It says models are ordinary files in one folder you can open, copy or delete, and nothing downloads until you click Download. Below, the Auto choice and the On this Mac row with an Open Folder button.

The daily report is your choice

The first time you open Mondro, it asks whether you’d like to send us a small daily report, to help us build the best Mondro we can. You have three answers, and none is picked for you.

  • Send a Daily Report

    One small report a day comes to us.

  • Keep Reports on This Mac

    Reports are written on your Mac and stay there.

  • No Thanks

    No report at all.

Nothing is written or sent until you answer, and you can change your answer any time.

A report holds
counts, version numbers and a few plain facts about your Mac and how the app ran.
It never holds
your messages, files, memory, name or house map.

You can read every report in the app, on the Network page in the Workshop.

The version that comes after this beta sends no report. It asks our update server whether there is a newer version, and that server sees your Mac’s internet address.

What you need

  • A Mac with an Apple chip (M1 or newer)
  • macOS 13 or later
  • 16 GB of memory or more
  • About 4 GB free: the first AI model is about 2.5 GB
  • You live in the United States or Canada, and you’re an adult where you live

Install in three steps

  1. Open the file you downloaded, then drag Mondro into your Applications folder.
  2. Open Mondro from Applications.
  3. macOS asks if you're sure you want to open an app from the internet. Click Open. It doesn't ask again.

It’s a beta

Mondro is early and unfinished, and we would rather say so than have you find out. It can break, and it can be confidently wrong, so check anything that matters and keep your own copies of your files. If a friend wants Mondro, share this page with them, not the file. And if something is confusing, that’s a bug. Tell us with Report a bug in the menu at the bottom left of Mondro, or write to support@mondrosystems.com. We read every message.
