Mondro for Mac (beta)

What Mondro can do

Mondro is a private assistant for your household. It answers questions, reads your files, keeps a memory and a map of your home, and has staff who each do one job. Your chats are answered on your Mac. Mondro keeps no cloud copy of them. There is no account.

Everyday questions.

  • “Explain compound interest like I am twelve.”

  • “Summarize this lease and list the dates I need to remember.”

  • “Proofread this paragraph and keep my voice.”

Your documents.

Drop a PDF, a text file or a spreadsheet export onto the window, then ask:

  • “Summarize this lease and list the dates I need to remember.”

  • “Which of these charges look unusual?”

A long file is read in part, and Mondro says so.

Photos.

Drop a photo and ask:

  • “What plant is this and how do I care for it?”

  • “Read me the label.”

Household staff

Staff who each do one job.

Home Chef, a mannequin in a chef's hat and apron.

Home Chef

Talk to Home Chef: “What are we low on?” “Plan five dinners from my recipes.” Put your recipes in ~/Mondro/Recipes. Keep your pantry list there too, in a file named Pantry.md, one line for each item. Home Chef plans from both and uses up first what expires first.

Home Accountant, a mannequin in a blue button-down shirt.

Home Accountant

Talk to Home Accountant. Put bank or card statements in ~/Mondro/Receipts, as a spreadsheet export or the PDF your bank sends. Then ask: “What did we spend on groceries in August?” “Find every subscription and its renewal date.”

Family Educator, a mannequin in a purple sweater.

Family Educator

Talk to Family Educator. Put textbooks or class notes in ~/Mondro/Textbooks. Then ask: “Quiz me on chapter 4.”

Property Records, a mannequin in a green overshirt.

Property Records

Talk to Property Records. Put the insurance policy, the mortgage or lease, the property tax notice and your appliance manuals in ~/Mondro/Property. Mondro reads PDFs and text files. A scanned PDF has no text to read. A PDF over 64 MB and any other file over 10 MB are not read. The staff card lists these under files not read. Then ask: “What was my mortgage balance on Dec 31, 2023?” “What does my liability endorsement cover?”

Garden & Lawn, a mannequin in a bucket hat and work apron.

Garden & Lawn

Talk to Garden & Lawn. Keep plant notes and your frost dates in ~/Mondro/Garden, with when you last did the regular jobs and how often. Then ask: “What needs doing in the garden this week?” Mondro works out what is due.

Memory.

Start a message with “Remember that”, then press Remember It in Household > Memory. Or press Remember under a message, choose the part worth keeping and press Save. Then ask:

“What do you remember about our house?”

Routines.

Workshop > Routines asks the AI a prompt every hour, day or week, such as a weekly meal plan or a Monday summary of new receipts. Routines run while Mondro is running and the AI is on, even with the window closed. Results land in Workshop > Artifacts.

The Routines page in the Workshop. It explains that a routine asks the AI something on a schedule, such as a meal plan every Monday, and runs even with the window closed, with a New Routine button underneath.

Power tools.

  • Workshop > Console sends the AI only what you write, plus any instructions you set there and, when tools are on, the list of tools.

  • Workshop > Tools adds tools the AI can use.

  • Workshop > Network shows what Mondro is connected to, read from macOS.

What it does not do

Without a tool you turn on, Mondro does not browse the web, send email or know today's news. A tool you turn on can reach its own service. Mondro says so where you turn it on, and a tool that reaches outside your Mac asks before every call, whatever your settings say. Chat does not read your house map or device list. Mondro can be confidently wrong, so check anything that matters.
